After a long wait, the moment had finally arrived! The container, which had been on its way from the Netherlands since November and had been held up in the port of Tema (Ghana) for over three months, has finally arrived in Atakpamé! This container will transform our beautiful conference hall into a venue available for hire, complete with conference seating, a sound system, a projector and much more.

Looking back, we’re grateful that we managed to unload the container from the lorry and place it in its permanent location. This was done without the crane that’s normally required for such an operation… Here in Atakpamé, too, there are heavy-duty cranes of this sort… which are used, amongst other things, to clear the road from time to time when accidents involving lorries occur and the vehicles need to be towed away. But hiring such a crane lorry for a day would have been extremely expensive, so it was decided to make do with a small crane mounted on an ordinary lorry. It was thanks to God’s providence that there happened to be a large tree in exactly the right spot. And so the back of the container was hooked onto the tree, the front was lifted by the crane, and the lorry was able to drive away. I wasn’t there to see how things went from there… but all’s well that ends well! The container will now be converted into, amongst other things, permanent storage space.
